Rocket Racing

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District

Event Details

Has quarantine been making you feel bored and boxed-in these last several months? If so, how would you like to smash a big red button and make a rocket soar so high you have to squint to see it?

In our Rocket Racing event, we'll be building model rockets, launching them in a large public park (with masks and proper social distancing, of course), and chasing them down to see who can bring their rocket back to the launch area the fastest. There will be a leaderboard and the winner will get bragging rights!

A free model rocket kit will be provided for each teen who registers for this event. Scoutmaster Tim Pottorff of Scouts BSA Troop 32 will teach the participants how to assemble their rockets virtually over Zoom. (That's right: you'll get to build your rocket in the safety of your own home.) There will be two Zoom sessions: one on September 22 and a second on September 24. Each session will last an hour or less and the sessions will start at 7:00 p.m. both days. (Participants must attend both of these sessions.) Please see our event calendar for more details.

On September 27 we will hold a launch event that will last 1-2 hours based on the number of registrants. We will meet in the lobby of the library at 1:00 p.m. and then walk together to Bruce Ream Memorial Park, just down the street.

***Please register if you would like to participate in this event. Registration will be capped at 10 participants and will close 9/21.***
